ESG WEEK - 2024

MONDAY 22ND TO FRIDAY 26TH APRIL

ESG Week

And just like that, ESG Week 2024 comes to a close! It was a full schedule, covering topics such as Volunteering, Torfaen Nature Reserves, Carbon Emissions and the Able Charity based in Cwmbran. The team expanded their knowledge as well as brainstormed ideas for how we can affect change. Here’s how the week was broken down:

ESG WEEK - DAY ONE: VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering

Victoria gave a fun and informative talk focussing on volunteering, and what we can do as a business and individuals to help within our local community.

Volunteering demonstrates that we care, and is a great way of meeting new people and learning new skills.

A new Volunteering Policy was also unveiled, enabling staff time to dedicate to volunteering outside of working hours. We all came away with lots of great ideas of how we can volunteer within our local area, and are looking forward to seeing what we can achieve.

ESG WEEK - DAY TWO: TORFAEN NATURE RESERVES

Nature Reserve

On Day Two, David talked to the team about Torfaen’s six local nature reserves, which provide important natural green space for local communities and wildlife. Torfaen is characterised by high quality natural habitats, and contains areas of national and local conservation importance.

David also tied his talk into the volunteering presentation delivered on day one, providing useful information about how we can get involved. There are many volunteer programs that we will now look into, including Torfaen Countryside Volunteers, Blaenavon World Heritage Site Environmental Volunteers, and Henllys Local Nature Reserve Group.

ESG WEEK - DAY THREE: CARBON

Carbon Emissions

Craig sat down with the team to deliver a presentation for Day 3 of our ESG week, focussing on carbon. Craig began by identifying the causes of carbon, and explained that carbon emissions are one type of greenhouse gas emission that takes place when carbon dioxide enters the air after a human activity or process.

We were then told about the effects carbon has on our planet, took part in an informative quiz via Earthday.org, and finally we discussed how we can do our bit as individuals.

As a company, our core mission is to reduce carbon emissions, promote sustainability and make our planet a better place. We achieve this by providing modular, off-site solutions that consider environmental impact, designing for life whilst building for the future.

ESG WEEK - DAY FOUR: ABLE

Able Charity

Day 4, and our final day of what has been a great ESG Week here at Asset HQ!

Our Product Manager (Concrete) Sean gave an inspirational talk on the power of volunteering, and how it can help bring people together. Sean followed up by re-introducing us to Able and the amazing work they do. Able was founded in 2006 by a group of volunteers passionate about improving the everyday lives of individuals with additional learning needs. Starting as a radio station, the enterprise has grown rapidly, and now plays a pivotal role within the community.

Sean also shared an amazing case study as a result of our previous post attracting a new person to Able. We look forward to continuing to support this amazing cause. For more information, visit: https://www.able.wales/
