ASSET TWIN BEBO ARCH (WITH VSOL PANELS) | CHAPEL ROAD

CHAPEL ROAD - CAMBOURNE (CORNWALL)

PROJECT OVERVIEW

We were approached to design and supply a concrete bridge structure over a carriageway parallel to a watercourse, along with a live road running over the top. As the exclusive BEBO licensee for the UK and Ireland, delivering precast arch structures since 2006, we proposed an asset BEBO twin arch solution for the project. A C42 Twin BEBO Arch with VSoL rectangular panels and N2 containment precast parapets was chosen as the suitable solution, which is located in Chapel Road, Camborne (Cornwall).

Our project brief was to mirror an old masonry bridge structure using local granite, creating a heritage aesthetic sympathetic to the local infrastructure of the area. This project is particularly significant, as 2025 marks the 10 years anniversary of the bridge installation.

PROBLEM SOLVED

The main challenge that we faced was how we delivered the complex system in a timely and safe manner. The high quality, off site manufactured modular precast units were delivered to site in sequence, providing an efficient installation and a safe working environment.

The flexibility of the robust solution also allowed for fixing the heavy granite stone directly to the precast structure, creating the desired aesthetic and structural requirements as per the initial project brief.

ESG

The asset BEBO twin arch addressed numerous ESG concerns, as follows:

  • Social connectivity - connecting travel routes from wider communities to Chapel Road

  • Utilising local stone - by supporting regional businesses, with the aim of producing a consistent aesthetic

  • Protecting local wildlife - within the watercourse running beneath the concrete arch

  • Traffic management - reducing impact to commuters and alleviating disruption to traffic
